Porcelain Story

This parable is about our neighbours. A savage horde of men led by a mad tyrant who first established a way of life in his house that defies any reasonable explanation and then decided to attack a neighbouring country, destroying cities and killing hundreds of thousands of people just because he felt like it. And his entire horde supported their leader, because they have long ago and irrevocably lost the ability to think for themselves and make decisions...

In one country the ruler hurt his leg and had to walk on crutches. The crutches helped him much in walking and soon he got so used to them that when his leg healed he continued to use them anyway.

In time the ruler made all the members of his family, and then all his courtiers, use crutches as well. Gradually the inhabitants of the country began to strive to acquire crutches for themselves. In all the provinces there were workshops for the production of crutches from morning till night. The rich ordered ivory crutches and had them covered with gold and precious stones.

Special schools were opened for teaching crutches and famous scholars lectured at universities on the benefits of crutches.

Only a very few continued to do without crutches. Such behaviour seemed to most people, those who were used to walking on crutches, ridiculous and unreasonable.

In vain the loners tried to prove that crutches should be used only if necessary: "You see, we can easily do without crutches. Their opponents replied: "That is not true. It is all just a figment of your imagination. Your calls are detrimental to our society. And you have to answer for that." And the opponents of the common rules were thrown into prisons... And everyone else, frightened by the system, continued to walk on crutches, work on crutches, sleep with crutches and, like sheep, go to wage unnecessary wars with their neighbours, only to return home in special coffins, whose uniforms included room for crutches.

Needless to say, they were all doomed. Hardly. It was obvious. For everyone. Except for them. For now.
