Porcelain Story
I have been putting off this "porcelain" story "for later" for a long time. I thought that at first the readers of such an unusual section should have been told about the works of much more significant - rare, unique, the largest, the brightest, the most expressive pieces. The most memorable, after all. Our collection contains many works that have already become independent stories.
And this unpretentious, at first glance, figure every time I wanted to hold on. Firstly, because there was still only to arouse interest in collecting porcelain. Then it was necessary to try to explain all the subtleties of the technological process of creating iconic products belonging to various well-known manufactories. Then, when the interest was already aroused and the understanding of the intricacies of the art of creating porcelain miracles became clear to many readers of this column, I noticed that the works of complex, large-scale compositions replete with many characters, characterized by a dynamic, exciting plot, cause real resonance. Well, now, against the background of all of the above, how could I return again to the idea of presenting this simple girlish figure?
And yet... It was with this figurine that our passion for porcelain began. It was only later that there were many trips to porcelain museums and famous manufactories. It was already then a long-term crazy search for the works we liked, the uniqueness of the origin of which and their real value became clear only after years of immersion in this incredibly exciting journey along an unknown path for us. Then there were unexpected pleasant finds, and bitter disappointments, and real little tragedies associated with the loss of works that were never destined to be seen again ...
In the meantime, we, having gone with small children at that time to a souvenir shop in a resort town in Mallorca, discovered the beauty of porcelain for the first time. We looked at two works for a long time - this girl with a bouquet of flowers and a fishing boat with a grandfather, granddaughter and a dog. We were not destined to buy a boat at that time. It seemed too big for us. That is why the choice had to be made on a little girl. I had to start somewhere...
But why is it necessary? I still cannot understand this. And I am still not completely sure that I did the right thing then, taking the first step in this unusual direction. The truth is, I don't regret anything. And I am very grateful for this to my wise wife, who then supported me in this gathering and supported me throughout all these long years. Everything that I did not even dream about when gathering a collection, I have long received - the joy of discoveries, and the enjoyment of beauty, and the satisfaction of owning unique works ...
