Porcelain Story

This, at first glance, unpretentious figurine was presented to me by a person who is known and loved by thousands of people in our country - Dr. Rykov. Rykov Sergey Alexandrovich, professor, famous ophthalmologist. And for me - just Seryozha, Seryozhenka ...

This figurine is dear to me because Seryozha brought it from the house where it appeared decades ago thanks to his mother. And she stood there, reminding him of his departed mother, and of the exclusivity of the profession that he once chose. And now she's standing by me. And for me, this gift is valuable no less unique porcelain items donated to our museum by influential and wealthy donors. Moreover, I know the real value of the works they purchased, the price tags for which in antique shops sometimes look like long telephone numbers. You may not believe it, but out of the thousands of works collected in our collection, I can unmistakably name the donor of each of the hundreds of compositions donated to the museum in different years. Because in many cases, giving the most valuable porcelain products, most of our friends and acquaintances, as if they gave a piece of their soul to a place where this piece will always feel good and comfortable. I say this without any pathos, because that's exactly what happened.

Among the donors of the rarest works (sometimes very large and incredibly expensive, and sometimes not large, but very rare and valuable) were presidents, wealthy businessmen, famous doctors, show business figures, and chief editors. Absolutely incredible gifts in different years were made by the largest donors of our museum - Boris Todurov, Nikolai and Svetlana Bagraev, Dmitry Gordon and Alesya Batsman, Alexander Bogutsky and Elena Kondratyuk, Elena Pinchuk and Viktor Pinchuk, Anatoly and Tatyana Makarenko, Svetlana and Dasha Egorov. I am eternally grateful to them for their invaluable generosity. And even more so, I consider it my duty sooner or later to create an opportunity to enjoy this indescribable beauty not only for true connoisseurs of high art, but also for all our fellow citizens who “suffer” from love for beauty.

And in this context, such touching gifts as this figure of Dr. Aibolit, well-known in Soviet times, presented by Professor Rykov, created by the hands of the outstanding Ukrainian sculptor Vladislav Ivanovich Shcherbina, whom I was fortunate enough to meet shortly before his death, will always remain extremely valuable for me...

In addition, this figurine always reminds me that Sergei Rykov, after my frequent business trips in the spring and summer of 1986 to the Chernobyl accident zone, was the first doctor who then rushed to save my eyes from the rapidly exfoliating retina. He (at that time still a young chief physician of the Kyiv Center for Eye Microsurgery, but already a fairly reputable pediatric ophthalmologist) performed several complex operations, sheathing each of my eyes with biological material and thereby managing to preserve my vision for many years. And how many tens of thousands of such saving operations Rykov did for children all over our country! ..

Good Doctor Aibolit!

He sits under a tree.

Come to him for treatment.

Both the cow and the wolf

And a bug, and a worm,

And a bear!

Heal everyone, heal
