Porcelain Story
But they say rightly: live a century - learn a century... Some still like to add to this phrase: and still you will die a fool. The more I learned and continue to learn about porcelain, the more I understand that I know practically nothing about it. When many years ago my wife and I first visited the City of Porcelain near Spanish Valencia, it seemed to me that now we know almost everything about porcelain. After all, we were shown all the stages of creating a porcelain work - from the stage of approving the sketches proposed by the authors of future works, to the stage of the exit of finished compositions from huge furnaces designed for firing products at certain temperature conditions.
Every nuance of the creative and technological process was questioned and studied by us with the diligence of enthusiastic students. And after that, over the years, we have repeatedly visited the same City of Porcelain, where the production divisions of our beloved Lladro manufactory are located on a vast territory, and in the best porcelain museums in Dresden, Meissen, Vienna, London, New York, St. Petersburg, Naples ...
We learned, learned, learned everything about the history and art of creating the best works. And every day I realized that I knew porcelain less and less. This mysterious and inexhaustibly stunning world of porcelain is so great, multifaceted and sometimes even unpredictable. I'm not at all ashamed to admit it. Because the process of cognition continues almost every day. And almost every day is able to give unexpected discoveries for me. And in this I see and get joy from this crazy hobby. Here, for example, these two cups of Ukrainian production. To some, they may seem simple. But they are not. For many years they stood in our collection on one side for review. And, just preparing them for laying out in our "porcelain" section, we noticed that the expression of the faces on the back of these cups, according to the author's idea, is completely different! A trifle, it would seem. How to know. Some little things led us to such amazing portrait resemblances that we just wanted to gasp. But that's a topic for another discussion.
