Porcelain Story
I have spoken many times about the major works collected in our collection. Porcelain cars, trains, carriages, ancient vases, hunting scenes, huge figures of Chinese lions and dragons, statues of warriors... Some of them reach one and a half meters in length and up to a meter or more in height. Of course, large works always attract much more attention than small, elegant, thin, sometimes barely noticeable ones. This is understandable. Already with their unprecedented size, they seem to fascinate the eye, striking with the complexity of the execution of such a large-scale work of porcelain art.
But I must note that small, very small, and sometimes even almost microscopic items also deserve the attention of true connoisseurs of this unique type of human creativity. Such products are quite rare. Few collect them. Most often they are not very complex and therefore they are not of great interest to collectors. And at the same time, among them there are truly rare works that can cause uncontrollable delight. There are not so many such works in our collection. Something about 300. But among them there are simply unique products of German, French, Austrian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Italian production, in which, in the form of flowers and tiny figurines of people and animals, a simply fantastic level of skill of their creators is demonstrated.
In fact, this is a topic for a separate discussion. And not even for one discussion. And for a separate small museum hall with special showcases. It seems to me that visitors could spend no less time near these showcases with many unique miniature porcelain items than in front of huge compositions that amaze the imagination, first of all, with their size.
The works presented to your attention were presented to me by an amazing person who lives in Odessa and who incredibly loves his native Ukraine. We met Sergei Voronov, who decided to revive the production of rare porcelain items in our country, several years ago. And since then, I have never ceased to admire his energy and desire to infect everyone around him with love for Ukrainian porcelain, which has long since fallen into decay. One of his ideas is to release several series of handmade thematic figurative thimbles dedicated to the history of famous Ukrainian theaters. In one of the episodes, recognizable images of outstanding Ukrainian actors will even be recreated! And that is absolutely great...
