Porcelain Story

The other day, congratulating me on my birthday, one old acquaintance was sincerely surprised at how I have the patience to collect a porcelain collection for more than a quarter of a century, and to build a museum of porcelain figures for more than 10 years. It was not so difficult for me to explain that for the implementation of such expensive goals, a substantial expenditure of funds is required. And money, as you know, is not lying on the road - you still need to earn it. Well, and, besides, this whole protracted process, despite its many problems and exhaustion of forces, all this time brought incomparable pleasure - from the search for rare, and sometimes unique works. Yes, and from the constant feeling of the approaching joy of giving lovers of fine porcelain art the opportunity in their native Kiev to get acquainted with works that are rarely found even in large museum collections in Naples or Valencia, Vienna or Dresden, Budapest or even London.

- No, well, it's all clear, - the acquaintance did not let up. - But for so many years!.. Was there something that helped not to be disappointed in the implementation of the task set for ourselves?!

To this I answered him with a short parable, familiar to me for many years and sometimes coming to the rescue in the most difficult moments of life. Journalists once asked a famous Spanish scientist, whose scientific discoveries brought him both scientific fame and large fees:

 - What do you consider the most important in achieving the goal?

"Patience," he replied curtly. I just have been patient.

- Come on, - one very broken reporter did not believe. - I will name a lot of areas of human activity in which this principle does not work.

 - For example? the scientist asked.

 - For example, you can carry water in a sieve as much as you like - and you will not have any result! Is not it?

Not so, young man. You just need to be patient until the January frosts...

By the way, the work presented today to your attention is both amazing and unique in many ways. I will not describe it for a long time in the hope that not so much time will pass and everyone will be able to see it with their own eyes in the interior of our museum. Let me just say that it was presented to me by close friends, for which I am immensely grateful to them. And now all the time it will remind me of this.
