Porcelain Story

There is a beautiful park in the center of Madrid, the decoration of which is a grandiose sculptural composition dedicated to the famous Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. The huge figure of the author of novels about Don Quixote, sitting in an armchair surrounded by his literary heroes, is made of snow-white stone. And during the autumn bad weather (this, however, does not happen often in the Spanish capital, but it was at such a moment that I first saw this monument and remembered it) against the background of a gloomy sky and fading greenery, it literally glows, as if radiating the warmth of memories caused by reading books about the legendary hidalgo Don Quixote and his faithful companion Sancho Panza.

Closest to the writer's chair is, of course, a strange knight. I have already said once that the theme of the adventures of Don Quixote and his faithful squire is traditionally perhaps the most popular in Spanish art. This was especially evident in porcelain works. We have all sorts of Don Quixotes in our collection! .. He is on a horse in knightly armor, and lying down on a cart, which is sadly dragged by tired buffaloes, and thoughtfully reading a book, and looking for a gentle word to write to the lady of his heart charming Dulcinea, which is about to be completed during a short halt ...

The composition presented to your attention shows Don Quixote in an unusual light. Having given Sancho his outer clothing, out of habit, he started a long-standing philosophical dispute with him on a topic that would certainly have seemed ridiculous and unrealistic to an outside listener. But only not to a squire who is ready to argue with his master on any topic and for a long time.

And how do you like the third participant in this conversation? If he could speak, he would definitely convince everyone of the correctness of his point of view ... What is good about such plot compositions is the opportunity to plunge into the world of famous (or even unknown) heroes for a moment and live a piece of someone else's unusual fate in this amazing world.
