Porcelain Story
Surely, many readers of the "Figure of the Day" column have been to the capital of the Spanish province of Catalonia - the glorious city of Barcelona. Anyone who has visited this city at least once, with a huge number of Barcelona sights, will certainly remember the incredible houses built by the architect Antonio Gaudi, unlike anything else. Bright, undulating, decorated with some outlandish turrets and spiers, lined with unusual mosaics, they caused heated debate (and fines for violating strict building codes and regulations!) More than a century ago. They cause the same controversy even now, because it is simply impossible to get used to such an architecture.
But the hottest emotions are the reconstruction of the famous Sagrada Familia, to which Gaudí devoted 43 years of his lonely life. Yes, yes, lonely, because no one has ever seen the lady of his heart. But she still was! A poor teacher who once turned down a marriage proposal from a then-young architect. And forever thereby breaking his personal life. And forever turning the once smart man into an untidy and dirty person.
When once Gaudi was hit by a tram and lost consciousness, it never occurred to anyone that in front of them was the then world-famous architect ... And he died quietly, recognized by the priest only before his last breath. The presented work is a kind of hymn to the unrequited love of a brilliant master. It also conveys elements of fantastic mosaics and forms that distinguish its buildings from the mass of others, and a vivid image of a poor beauty who did not reciprocate.
