Porcelain Story

This funny figurine is like an illustration for World Sleep Day. In this regard, I would like to tell you the story of the acquisition of this cute figurine. By the way, I want to note that, however strange it may seem to some, there are a great many compositions dedicated to the theme of sleep in our collection. It turns out that this theme has long been popular with sculptors representing a variety of porcelain manufactories. That is why I brought sleeping sultans from many countries, and children sniffing sweetly in the arms of caring mothers, and various animals staring at something in their porcelain dreams.

This charming figurine was found by us in one of the shops in Barcelona a few years after we first visited this city with our then little son Dima. Now, after graduating from an English university, he returned home and works in Kyiv. And then he was a year and a half. And we, walking along the famous Rambla Boulevard, decided to change our son's diaper right on the bench, sorry for the juicy details. We changed it - and we didn’t even notice how the son immediately sniffed sweetly, closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Leaving my wife with him, I went to a porcelain shop that had long been known to me, which was "held" by the Indians. You could trade with them. And from that trip we took home not only Dimochka, who breathed in the Spanish air, but also several beautiful porcelain figurines.

Last year, on one of our trips, we again visited Barcelona. Now with our youngest Anechka. We only had half a day, but we managed to visit the seaport, see the fantastic houses built by the legendary architect Gaudi, and take pictures of Anechka on the lions at the foot of the Columbus monument. Of course, we also sat on the "Dimochkina" bench on the Rambla Boulevard, and visited the porcelain shop next door. Moreover, they told my daughter about this figurine, which her mother and I bought in this store during one of our previous trips - in memory of how her older brother slept in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Now ordinary, at first glance, porcelain work from our collection has acquired a special meaning for Anya.
