Porcelain Story

I once managed to find this incredibly beautiful composition in a small Belgian town. By that time, our collection already had many works created by the hands of this famous Spanish sculptor. And I must say that, unlike many other porcelain manufactories, famous for their bird plots, this series of birds by Antonio Ballester has always caused me real delight. And this is why.

If the birds of other masters are often created brighter, more graceful, and more differently "overdressed", then Ballester's works always give the impression of just living birds. The way nature created them. They are not brighter or more beautiful than they really are. They are not some fancy and decorative, created only to take their place in someone's expensive interior and make it even more expensive with their presence. They are just alive. Created in gres, which most naturally conveys in porcelain the naturalness of living beings (birds, animals or even people), such works allow you to think that in front of you is not a piece of arts and crafts, but a natural bird, frozen for a moment before, frightened, flap your wings - and fly away ...

Great talent must be possessed in order to learn how to convey natural naturalness. And Ballester, who created a whole series of large birds (which is almost completely collected in our collection), just possessed such a talent in full.
