Porcelain Story
And let me tell you a story about this amazing composition, which I found many years ago at one of the American online auctions. This was at a time when many American and British porcelain sellers, as soon as they heard that the buyer was from Ukraine, categorically refused to send the sold work to our country. Anywhere, but not in Ukraine.
I had to find out from friends and acquaintances who had relatives in America who were ready to receive a fragile thing at their address in order to send it to Kyiv later. Found it pretty quickly. The parents of a friend of mine, who lived in Boston, agreed to do all this. My lengthy instructions that porcelain would require special care when packing and onward sending through various authorities, where movers usually do not stand on ceremony with parcels, seem to have been taken into account.
My friend's father, who worked all his life in Soviet construction, assured: don't worry, we ourselves know what ''vira'' and ''maina'' are (there are such expressions in construction when transporting goods). When I learned that our well-known builder decided not to even send the fragile work by mail, but to bring it personally, because I had planned my imminent arrival, I generally calmed down ... Until I saw a soft cloth, multi-colored checkered suitcase with a ''lightning'' ', handed over to me soon with the words: well, they didn’t let him into the cabin of the plane, so I had to put the suitcase in luggage ...
I probably did not dare to open this checkered, well-wrinkled suitcase that stood in our hallway for a week. Over the years of collecting porcelain, I have seen so many beautiful items that were shattered to smithereens during shipment due to improper packaging, that it would be quite possible to assemble another collection from them...
You won’t believe it, and for a long time I myself couldn’t believe my eyes: this most complicated work (with a lot of the thinnest translucent flowers!) when opening a cloth suitcase, it turned out to be ... absolutely intact! And do you know why? The experience of a well-known builder played its role, who managed to fill every corner of an old suitcase with simple newsprint (!) And this, after all, is perhaps the most important thing when packing porcelain - a package with it inside does not tolerate empty spaces ...
