Porcelain Story
You know, I have always respected any kind of collecting. And it is true. Because a non-random, systematic, conscious passion for collecting anything - this, in my opinion, is always the path to the beautiful and new. After all, being carried away by something for many years, you voluntarily or involuntarily study not only the subject of your hobby, but also delve deeply enough into the smallest nuances of everything connected with it. Whatever branch of hobby it concerns - painting, sculpture, stamps, badges, pencils ...
I have already talked about how, by my own example, I was more than once convinced that passion sometimes opens up new layers of knowledge for you, relating not only to the subject of passion itself, but also to many other things that are somehow connected with it.
For example, this amazingly beautiful figurine, acquired by me in one of the small towns in the north of Scotland, has been in our collection for many years. To my shame, until recently I did not even imagine which of the apostles the work is dedicated to and why large stone shells are strangely highlighted on the staff, on the clothes and even on the headdress of the hero. Much became clear during a trip to the beautiful Spanish city of Bilbao, located on the shores of the Bay of Biscay.
During a tour of the old part of the city, we, of course, visited the main cathedral, which bears the name of St. James, or Santiago, as they say in Spain. It turns out that this is one of the main temples located on the famous Way of St. James, which ends in the town of Santiago de Compostela. It is there, in the capital of Galicia, at the end point of the journey of numerous pilgrims from all over Europe, that the incorrupt relics of the Apostle James, the elder brother of the Apostle John the Theologian, are kept. It was there that Jacob ended his journey on foot to Spain, who decided to bring the truth about the teachings of Jesus from Jerusalem to those distant lands. It was there that a legend arose according to which the holy apostle James became the heavenly patron and protector of all of Spain. It is there that pilgrims have been going on foot for many centuries, decorating their outfits, like their patron, with large sea shells...
