Porcelain Story

I decided to please you with an acquaintance with this amazingly delicate composition, created by German masters more than a hundred years ago, based on the famous work of the Sevres manufactory. I have already talked about the fact that in the old days in Europe there was a practice of using similar themes of popular subjects from one sculptor and artist to another.

By the way, this plot (and often even under the same name) was very popular with different artists. At various times, Peter Paul Rubens, Francois Boucher, and Konstantin Makovsky dedicated their paintings to him. It is no wonder that porcelain artists used this plot in the same way. The first ''Toilet of Venus'' was created in a biscuit by the masters of the Sevres Porcelain Manufactory. It was just at the time when the factory moved from the castle in Vincennes to Sevres and when they began to return to the style of classicism in sculptural compositions. Often, in the plots that Boiseau, Le Rich and Falcone, who headed the group of sculptors, argued over the years, paintings and sketches of the same, for example, Boucher were used. In 1776, the composition was created, which became one of the most sought after among the noble connoisseurs of porcelain art. So there is nothing surprising in the fact that then many famous European porcelain manufactories began to imitate it, or even skillfully copy it. By the way, some copies were so perfect that they were often sold at the price of the original work.

In our collection, this work, brought from Spain, appeared relatively recently. So, to be honest, we have not even had time to fully enjoy the contemplation of the many subtle details of this complex product. And, believe me, there is something to enjoy here. After all, this work of beauty is indescribable...
