Porcelain Story
In the history of European porcelain, the participation of the first persons of states or their favorites in the creation of large manufactories was noted many times. French porcelain - following Meissen, Vienna and St. Petersburg - was no exception. In 1753, King Louis XV bought out the third part of the French porcelain manufactory, which was first created in the town of Vincennes near Paris, and then transferred to the estate of Sevres, next to the Palace of Versailles and the residence of Madame Pompadour.
In 1760, Louis XV, having become the sole owner of the manufactory, carried out a unique campaign to melt down gold and silver dishes, which, in his opinion, should have led to an increase in demand for porcelain products. A number of strict royal decrees forbade other French manufactories that had already appeared to produce porcelain with bright painting and gilding (only blue painting was allowed), as well as figurines and compositions. All products produced in violation of the decree were confiscated from violators of the decree! Can you imagine the conditions under which "competition" developed between the French manufactories of that time?
And yet, real art has learned to make its way even in such conditions ... I really like French porcelain - be it Sevres or Limoges, or Paris. It is recognizable for its bright originality and fascinating plot scenes. It decorated and continues to decorate the life of true connoisseurs of beauty. Especially during a period of difficult life tests or long wars.
