Porcelain Story

In 2016, in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, in the premises of the National Museum of Folk Decorative Art, an exhibition of works by the outstanding Ukrainian sculptor Vladislav Shcherbina was held. It was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Vladislav Ivanovich and aroused great interest not only among collectors and specialists in this field. Porcelain compositions, created by the imagination and hands of a famous master, have attracted the attention of the general public for decades, as it was customary to say before. It can be said without exaggeration that the works created by Vladislav Ivanovich in Soviet times could be seen not only in museums and exhibitions. They stood in the apartments of millions of families. It was at a time when there was not enough money for everyone, but the desire to decorate their home with something beautiful pushed people to search for and buy affordable and at the same time unambiguously excellent quality porcelain products.

True, for many decades of Vladislav Shcherbina's work at the Kiev porcelain factory (and even earlier in Gorodnitsa, Dovbysh and Baranovka), he managed to create about a thousand author's works, among which were completely unique. Such, for example, that on behalf of Ukraine were presented as a gift to other states on anniversaries.

Many of Vladislav Ivanovich's products were once purchased by museums in Russia, Japan and even Germany, where during the Second World War he happened to work as a port loader while in captivity.

The anniversary exhibition turned out to be the last in the creative biography of the outstanding sculptor. In the spring he died ... But I was happy to meet him. I am happy that our little Anechka, who had time to get acquainted with outstanding Spanish sculptors, met and took pictures with an equally outstanding Ukrainian Master, who entered the history of world porcelain art forever. And, looking at the wonderful compositions collected in our collection, created by Vladislav Shcherbina (and today's work was done by him in collaboration with his wife Oksana Zhnikrup, also a very famous Ukrainian sculptor and artist), our Anechka will be able to tell porcelain connoisseurs about people, many years later which the Ukrainian land will always be proud of.
