Porcelain Story

I found this large (more than half a meter high) and unusually delicate work quite by accident, while walking around London many years ago. In fact, I didn't look for it at all. I just saw beautiful porcelain dishes in the window of a store on Oxford Street and decided to take a closer look at it. Having examined it, I was about to leave, when suddenly I noticed this beautiful figure of a Japanese woman on one of the shelves.

Believe me, everything in this work is beautiful - both the delicate flowers that adorn the hairstyle of the heroine of the composition, and the amazing naturalness of the pose of a young female body, and the decoration, replete with many relief patterns, symbolizing the traditional combination of large Japanese flowers. Naturally, I could not resist such beauty.

But the most interesting thing awaited me in Kyiv. When I showed the new acquisition to a well-known connoisseur of Spanish porcelain, Svetlana Vasilievna Egorova, she suddenly admitted that a week earlier, while in London, she had seen this work in one of the shops on Oxford Street. True, I decided to postpone the purchase for the next trip to the English capital. This cannot be, you say. And you will be right. It can not be. But with us it was. And more than once. For those who constantly read my posts in the daily column ''Figure of the day'', such coincidences do not seem like news for a long time. The world is still small, my friends...

Just a few days ago, a message spread around the world that the 28-year-old Japanese princess Ayako voluntarily renounced her imperial status and married a commoner. Her chosen one was 32-year-old Kei Moriya, an employee of a large marine company. Love conquered both the status of the bride and the ancient traditions of the imperial palace.

By the way, the now former Princess Ayako is the cousin of the 84-year-old Emperor of Japan Akihito. Once I already told that his name is often mentioned among the noble porcelain lovers of the Spanish manufactory Lladro. Moreover, one of the largest compositions ever created by the famous Spanish masters has been adorning the main dining room of the Akihito Imperial Palace for many years. This huge scene of hunting dogs chasing a herd of deer is also in our collection.
