Porcelain Story

Small head, concave profile, small ears and wide nostrils. Graceful neck, obliquely set long shoulders, beautifully defined withers. Flat short back, wide chest. Solid legs with clearly defined tendons. Set on high, soft and silky tail. That's what he is - a real Arabian horse ... I know that among my Facebook friends there are many horse lovers. And for a long time I was going to please them with an acquaintance with that part of our collection, which is sure to be able to arouse their increased interest. Besides, we really have something to show. Indeed, among the truly unique porcelain compositions dedicated to the "horse" theme, there are works by the most famous Austrian, Scandinavian, Ukrainian, Spanish and German manufactories. But out of many different works in terms of plot, size, technique and skill level, it is this Spanish-made horse that seems special to me. Even though next to it now are several of the same size Arabian horses in a similar pose, but in a different color.

I kept wondering why Spanish sculptors were better than others in conveying in porcelain the uniqueness of this ancient race breed. Maybe because the Arab conquerors, who enslaved the Iberian Peninsula for three long centuries, made the breed of these horses, in fact, native to the Spaniards themselves? After all, how else can one explain such an amazing thoroughness in displaying every (!) detail of the exterior and rich harness, incredibly recreated in such a fragile and delicate material, which is porcelain?

Well, now the main thing. Most of the horses in our collection are not just good, they are beautiful. But only this Arabian horse is able to hit you in the heart. He has absolutely living eyes! What a pity that photography is not able to convey this supernatural detail of the work ... When you can look into the eyes of a porcelain horse, you, like me, will say that this cannot be real. Because it can never be. This horse looks into your very soul, causing a feeling of communication with a completely living creature! .. It's just incredible.
