Porcelain Story

Recently, in the Kiev Opera House, as they used to say, they gave a ballet. By the way, a wonderful production of "The Lady of the Camellias". Based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas Jr. But without reference to the classic "La Traviata", set to music by Giuseppe Verdi. Which I have not seen, and therefore it is not necessary to compare. Yes, and I don't really want to.

I liked the ballet in the Ukrainian production. Highly. In it, I, not particularly experienced in the intricacies of ballet mastery, liked almost everything. Well, except that the dissonance of musical passages - from Beethoven to Stravinsky - seemed somewhat strange. But even this did not affect the overall excellent impression of the performance. Applause as a sign of sincere gratitude to the performers - and the ballet troupe, and the orchestra, and the directors, and stage designers - sounded for a long time. And deservedly so. And our family enjoyed it. And, exchanging impressions already at the exit from the theater, I asked our youngest Anya if she knew what camellias look like, and unexpectedly I heard: “I can’t even imagine ...” And this was my smart, attentive, noticing child, who has been going with us to the Botanical Garden in Pechersk for many years. Yes, and in foreign trips I saw a lot of botanical gardens and famous parks in many countries of the world.

I had to find this fantastically beautiful porcelain bouquet of camellias in our collection specifically for Anya. It was created by the hands of not one master, but employees of a whole division of the Lladro manufactory. We have been to the "City of Porcelain" more than once at the invitation of members of the Lladro family and witnessed the painstaking work of the creators (only women work there) of flower arrangements. The amazing energy of fabulously fragile beauty seems to be accumulated in these works, then discharged over the course of decades... It seems to me that it will not be difficult for Anechka to determine what camellias look like now.
